Life in the shadow of COVID-19 is full of challenges for businesses and entrepreneurs. More and more small businesses are facing the prospect of having to shut down for good. This could have an undeniable impact on the livelihoods of millions of people and the economy as a whole.

Tyler Shveyda is the co-owner of Twisted Steel Fabrication in Midland, Texas. He was born in Oklahoma but moved to Texas when he was young and lived in North Texas and East Texas while growing up. Tyler learned about the fabrication industry by working as a welder for 10 years prior to starting his own company. Being located in Texas has provided many opportunities for growth, but of course, the business has been affected by COVID-19.

Information Overload

The media have been at the forefront of keeping people abreast with the latest news and information about the pandemic, new cases, and vaccine rollouts. According to entrepreneur Tyler Shveyda, while it’s important to keep track of what’s going on, so much information can become a problem. It’s difficult to sort out the important news from the background noise. Not to mention that not all the information circulating on social media is accurate. This confusion makes it hard for entrepreneurs and business owners to run their businesses, especially if they base their decisions on unreliable sources.

Changing Legislation

Due to the fast pace of the pandemic and the deep impact it has on every aspect of our lives, the government has been issuing legislation at a breakneck speed as well. Some of these new rules and regulations are contradictory in nature, leaving entrepreneurs scratching their heads trying to make sense of it all. In this environment, rumors become rife and entrepreneurs might fall victim to misinformation. So, it’s important that business owners learn about every new legislation from government websites and official sources.

Tyler Shveyda on the Way Forward

Tyler Shveyda also points out another challenge that entrepreneurs are facing. In the middle of this unprecedented crisis, most business owners find that they have to make split-second decisions that could have serious repercussions on the future of their business. To complicate things further, the volatile situation requires quick thinking, which is not an easy feat, especially when many decision-makers are prone to overthinking. However, setting clear goals and breaking down the tasks are the best strategies to overcome the difficulties at these uncertain times.
